If you are not using this, and you want readability at small font sizes. you should look into this. I think Macintosh OS X is using this by default.
I have been using this since last week, and I just love it. You set this option in your display settings, and everything looks a lot clearer.
I have not noticed any speed disadvantage, but I also have not tried using it within any games either.
